The cost of one hotline call from abroad
U.S. hotlines keep callers on hold for 20–40 minutes on a normal day. Roaming bills every one of those minutes — or makes you buy a whole day of service for one call.
| How you call | Price | 40-min hotline call |
|---|---|---|
| AT&T, no international plan (pay-per-use) | $4.00/min | $160.00 |
| AT&T International Day Pass | $12/day | $12 for that day |
| Verizon TravelPass | $12/day per line | $12 for that day |
| T-Mobile, calling over cellular | $0.50/min | $20.00 |
| T-Mobile, Wi-Fi calling to the U.S. | no charge | $0 — if Wi-Fi calling works on your phone |
| PayCall, talking the whole time | $0.39/min | $15.60 |
| PayCall with Hold for me | $0.09/min on hold · $0.39/min with a person | $6.60 |

When roaming is the better choice
Honest answer: sometimes it is.
- You're on T-Mobile and Wi-Fi calling works on your phone: calls to the U.S. over Wi-Fi are free. Use them.
- You need your phone for maps, data and many calls every day: a $12 day pass covers everything. That's about 30 minutes of PayCall talk time.
- You need to receive calls on your U.S. number: PayCall only makes outgoing calls.
When PayCall is the better choice
- You only need to call your bank, airline, insurer, Medicare or the IRS — not pay for a whole day of roaming.
- The hotline will keep you on hold: with Hold for me the waiting costs $0.09/min.
- The number is a U.S. toll-free 1-800 line, which most foreign phones and many SIMs can't reach.
- You're on a local or travel eSIM with data only, or on hotel Wi-Fi.
- Unanswered calls are never charged; you only pay for connected time, billed per second. If a call fails for a technical reason on our side, support reviews it.
How to call a U.S. hotline without roaming
- 1Turn off cellular roaming or put your U.S. SIM on airplane mode so nothing is billed by accident.
- 2Connect to Wi-Fi or use a local / travel eSIM for data.
- 3Open pay-call.com, sign in and add credits.
- 4Call the U.S. number in your browser. The call starts in Hold for me with your microphone off; turn it on when a person answers.
Questions fréquentes
How much does it cost to call the U.S. from Europe with roaming?
On AT&T without an international plan, calls cost $4.00/min. AT&T's International Day Pass and Verizon TravelPass cost $12 per day. T-Mobile charges $0.50/min over cellular; Wi-Fi calls to the U.S. are free (carrier pages, October 17, 2026).
Is PayCall cheaper than roaming?
For calls to U.S. hotlines, usually yes: a 40-minute call (30 min on hold + 10 min talking) costs $6.60 with Hold for me, versus $160.00 on AT&T pay-per-use or $12 for a day pass. If you have free Wi-Fi calling, that is cheaper.
Do I pay roaming fees when I use PayCall?
PayCall does not place a carrier voice-roaming call. It uses Wi-Fi or mobile data, so your internet provider's charges still apply, including data roaming if enabled. Use Wi-Fi or an appropriate data plan and check those costs first.
