Calling a U.S. hotline from abroad is mostly waiting. A 40-minute call (30 min on hold + 10 min talking) costs $160.00 on AT&T without an international plan, $12 for the day with AT&T's International Day Pass or Verizon TravelPass, $20.00 on T-Mobile over cellular — and $6.60 with PayCall, which charges $0.09/min while you're on hold and $0.39/min once a person answers.

U.S. hotlines keep callers on hold for 20–40 minutes on a normal day. Roaming bills every one of those minutes — or makes you buy a whole day of service for one call.

When roaming is the better choice

Honest answer: sometimes it is.

  • You're on T-Mobile and Wi-Fi calling works on your phone: calls to the U.S. over Wi-Fi are free. Use them.
  • You need your phone for maps, data and many calls every day: a $12 day pass covers everything. That's about 30 minutes of PayCall talk time.
  • You need to receive calls on your U.S. number: PayCall only makes outgoing calls.

When PayCall is the better choice

  • You only need to call your bank, airline, insurer, Medicare or the IRS — not pay for a whole day of roaming.
  • The hotline will keep you on hold: with Hold for me the waiting costs $0.09/min.
  • The number is a U.S. toll-free 1-800 line, which most foreign phones and many SIMs can't reach.
  • You're on a local or travel eSIM with data only, or on hotel Wi-Fi.
  • Unanswered calls are never charged; you only pay for connected time, billed per second. If a call fails for a technical reason on our side, support reviews it.

How to call a U.S. hotline without roaming

  1. 1Turn off cellular roaming or put your U.S. SIM on airplane mode so nothing is billed by accident.
  2. 2Connect to Wi-Fi or use a local / travel eSIM for data.
  3. 3Open pay-call.com, sign in and add credits.
  4. 4Call the U.S. number in your browser. The call starts in Hold for me with your microphone off; turn it on when a person answers.

Is PayCall cheaper than roaming?

For calls to U.S. hotlines, usually yes: a 40-minute call (30 min on hold + 10 min talking) costs $6.60 with Hold for me, versus $160.00 on AT&T pay-per-use or $12 for a day pass. If you have free Wi-Fi calling, that is cheaper.

Do I pay roaming fees when I use PayCall?

PayCall does not place a carrier voice-roaming call. It uses Wi-Fi or mobile data, so your internet provider's charges still apply, including data roaming if enabled. Use Wi-Fi or an appropriate data plan and check those costs first.
