Calling a U.S. hotline from abroad: PayCall, Talk360, Rebtel or roaming?
Compare calling options by price, setup and refund terms before choosing how to make your call.
- Hold for me · microphone off
- $0.09per minute
- Speaking · microphone on
- $0.39per minute
When your bank card is blocked or a flight is cancelled, you need one call to work, fast and safely. Most of that call is waiting on hold. PayCall is built around that: the queue costs $0.09/min with your microphone off, $0.39/min once you talk, and if the call didn't help — whatever the reason — you can refund it yourself within 24 hours, up to $3 per call (2 instantly, a 3rd on request, as call credits). Other services are cheaper per minute: browser callers such as GlobCall and WorldDialer charge 2–4¢/min. None of them refunds a completed call because it didn't help. If price is all that matters, use them; if the call matters and you want to be sure a failed one costs you nothing, that's what PayCall is for. Here is the honest comparison.

Why waiting is where the money goes
A typical call to a U.S. bank or airline is 30 minutes on hold and 10 minutes talking. With PayCall's Hold for me that call costs $6.60; at $0.39/min for the whole call it would be $15.60, and on AT&T pay-per-use $160.00. You still hear the music and the menus while your microphone is off, and you turn it on when a person answers.
Why a refund for calls you made matters
Hotlines fail in ways no app controls: the line closes early, the menu sends you to the wrong department, the call drops after 40 minutes in the queue. With most calling apps that call is simply paid. With PayCall you open your account and refund it within 24 hours, without explaining why. The first 2 refunds per account are instant, a 3rd is reviewed on request, up to $9 in total, returned as PayCall Credits.
Which one should you use?
- You call family abroad often and want the lowest per-minute price: a calling app such as Rebtel or Talk360, or a browser caller like GlobCall or WorldDialer, is cheaper.
- You need a U.S. bank, airline, insurer or government hotline, expect to wait on hold, and don't want to install an app: PayCall, with the cheaper waiting rate and a refund if the call didn't help.
- You need your phone number to show up or receive calls and texts: keep your mobile plan or a U.S. number service; PayCall only places outgoing calls.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get my money back if a call didn't help?
With PayCall, yes: refund any connected call in your account within 24 hours, whatever the reason, up to $3 per call. The first 2 are instant, a 3rd is reviewed on request, as call credits. Talk360 and Rebtel refund unused credit under their terms, not calls you already made.
Why is waiting on hold cheaper with PayCall?
Every call starts in Hold for me with your microphone off at $0.09/min. You still hear the queue and can press menu keys. When a person answers you turn the microphone on and talk at $0.39/min.
Is PayCall the cheapest way to call the U.S.?
No. Browser services like GlobCall and WorldDialer charge 2–4¢/min, and Connect-EZ is free for toll-free numbers, capped at 30 minutes a day. PayCall costs more because it's built for the call that has to work: if it didn't help, whatever the reason, you can refund it within 24 hours. None of the other options here refunds a completed call.
Do I need an app?
No. PayCall runs in your browser over WiFi or mobile data. Talk360 and Rebtel are apps.
